Hyatt Platform Engineer in CHICAGO, Illinois

Summary This resource will be expected to work closely with application development teams and operations/system administration teams to support and enable tooling platforms, controls and processes for development and code promotion to advance applications towards continuous delivery. The resource must be able to understand and follow the company’s established software delivery policies and best practices.

Knowledge of a diverse background of networking and infrastructure topics. The candidate must be able to create a working solution within an enterprise ecosystem with security and networking constraints upheld.

Responsibilities The following is a representative list of the activities the resource could be expected to perform: 1. Administer Enterprise Tools on Linux. 2. Drive home the ability to make data driven decisions 3. Learning new infrastructure tools and processes to discover ways to accelerate operational tasks like VM Creation, Load Balancers, Storage Provisioning, all things Kubernetes, etc 4. Assist in architecting new solutions using a mix of existing tooling and new concepts 5. Write scripts to automate common system administration tasks and backups. 6. Onboard new applications / micro-services to our Service Deployment Pipeline that is powered by Jenkins, Ansible, Docker, & Rundeck 7. Assist with the Administration of Splunk and enablement of log parsing 8. Troubleshoot Docker Builds as it relates to the Service Deployment Pipeline 9. Practice and form User Access Control Processes 10. Construct and maintain Environment Management principals. Work with Operations and Development to keep dev / test environments in sync and push for evolution to codify the environment configurations. 11. Integration of tooling platforms, using api’s, configuration management, etc. 12. Provide Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, Jira, Confluence, and Splunk expertise and support. 13. Document general DevOps procedures and foster a collaborative culture. 14. Produce "How To" documentation 15. Analyze continuous integration needs for applications and generating CI solutions tailored by application. 16. Assist development in troubleshooting failed builds. Conducting root cause analysis in close collaboration with the development team. 17. Provide technical research and assist with business cases for new tools, etc.

Qualifications The ideal candidate has a balanced understanding of institutional operations practices and modern application development’s need to move fast. This role provides an exciting opportunity to support both use-cases, supporting platforms that provide structured code releases with quality gates while improving delivery speed by leveraging a diverse technology stack and automation.

The resource should have strong System Administration experience focused mainly on Linux along with experience with the tools and systems used during a software development, test, and release cycle. A mixed background between development and operational duties would be ideal. The resource should understand application code versioning strategies and the concept of release gates. Requires a deep understanding of scripting languages and how to interact with multiple systems across networks. Advantageous if heavily experienced with configuration management concepts, Docker, clustered ecosystems, api calls, and public/private cloud.
